Hey! I'm Alyson Watkin. I'm the actual person behind the Remedy Salon logo. I've had a dream of being a hairdresser since I was 19, but life had other plans. Marriage and babies, that sort of thing. When I started following my dreams at 32 I was led down a curving path right back to cosmetology. It’s in my blood (my mom was a hairdresser in the late 60s/early 70s, before having kids). I earned my cosmetology license after 2000 hours of training in 2013. Then after an additional 750 hours of training, went on the get my Master Aesthetics license the next year in 2014.

After 9 years behind the chair, doing hair and loving my career, I began to get sick. I got sicker and sicker, with no relief until I felt pushed to dig deeper into why. What I found was truly baffling.The beauty industry is laden with toxic chemicals, and those chemicals are being ingested by hairdressers non-stop throughout their work day. Working in a typical salon environment invites massive amounts of opportunity to absorb the toxicity. Think about after your color has been shampooed from your head and your hairdresser leads you back to their chair. They then spray or apply product by hand to your hair and proceed to blow-dry. The chemicals in those products turn to vapor as the warm air hits them & we all breathe them in. They're then absorbed into our bloodstream within 60 seconds! Is anyone else’s mind blown? Mine certainly was. Imagine that in a salon with 10+ blowdryers running at the same time. I often had to walk into the break room because I was coughing so hard.

Long story short, Remedy Salon was conceived.

Remedy was born from my dream to bring clean beauty to every person I encounter, while making lasting connections and promoting self confidence. This notion runs so much deeper than what we see on the outside, and the hope and goal is to help nurture a deep love for ourselves, using non-toxic products with a non-toxic attitude.

Honestly, my health journey continues. I wish I could say that I switched to non-toxic products and everything was immediately perfect, but detox takes time, money, and a sh*t ton of effort. I will continue to drive this campaign to clean up salons and the entire beauty industry, if only from the comfort of my beautiful studio sharing with all of my rad clients.
